Today...

I'm off to the Kaisercraft Q one launch to get my sneak peak of their gorgeous new paper collections and products, I'm so excited! Things have been so hectic around here lately that it's really snuck up on me. I'm looking forward to a nice couple of days away.

We've just had the Queen's birthday long weekend and we took the opportunity to go and visit Wombeyan Caves. We keep seeing the tourist signs when we drive to Sydney and saying that we must go, so we finally did! They were absolutely gorgeous, I've always loved karst topography and studied a few units on it at uni. All those treasures beneath the ground blow my mind. It was so nice to wander around these caves, sharing their beauty with my family. The kids both loved it, particularly William who took great delight in splashing in the puddles on the floor of the cave.

We had been a bit anxious to see how he would manage with the steps and ladders because he flat out refuses to climb the ladders at gymnastics, but we needn't have worried because he was completely fine with them.

This cave wasn't as heavily 'jewelled' as others I've been in, and the photos don't even come close to doing it justice, but some of the flowstones and other formations in this cave were absolutely stunning, and a real treat to see. We took a 1 1/2 hour guided tour and the guide was fantastic. It's so nice seeing someone who is so passionate and really good at their job.

Bec also loved it, although she was a little distracted by the fact that she was getting DIRTY and couldn't wait to get back to the car to put some clean trousers on. I really don't know where she gets that from! She completely made me laugh after we got home that night when she was rummaging through her drawers to find a pair of frilly party socks "because she hadn't worn much pretty things that whole day". Definitely not my daughter lol.

The only downside to the day was the nasty winding, narrow dirt roads and the unfortunate fact that we decided to go a different way home, which resulted in an extra hour of nasty winding, narrow dirt roads with particularly alarming drop-offs, only to find that it brought us back onto the highway an extra hour away from home......oops, I really should have had a look at a map before we left home instead of winging it! By the time we got back it was dark and we were too tired to go outside and set off our fire crackers, so the kids happily settled for peering out the front window at our neighbours who let off their crackers for over an hour in the street. It worked out pretty well actually. They ended up getting two cracker nights because we let ours off on the next night. Both kids loved it, and even bubby Linc joined in to see his first Queens' birthday cracker night.

Thanks for the tag!

I've driven past the sign to Wombeyan Caves plenty of times too and wondered what it would be like. I'd love to check them out too!
